My Amazing Students
Please enjoy the following pieces of student work that have been created in prior years. There have been many times where I had an immense amount of pride in my students.
“I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.” – Albert Einstein
Forensics - Mock Crime Scene Sketches
One of my most favorite activities with my students, the Mock Crime Scene! By giving students the ability to work within a “mock scene”, their unique talents are unleashed, and the use of their deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills really come to fruition.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively, and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Chemistry - Student Led Discussion
on How to Solve Mole Problems
“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” - Mark Van Doren
Chemistry - Video designed to teach about Solids, complete with Bloopers reel!
Student videos are some of my favorite student produced works. It allows a level of creativity that might otherwise be missing. I believe it also shows a greater depth of understanding of the topic involved if the student can verbally ‘teach’ the content to others.
“What we learn with pleasure we never forget.” - Albert Mercier
Chemistry - Storyboard video designed to teach about Liquids
“A teacher who is attempting to teach without inspiring the pupil with a desire to learn is hammering on cold iron.” - Horace Mann
Chemistry - PowerPoint designed to teach a unit of Chemistry on Water
“A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience's attention, then he can teach his lesson.” - John Henrik Clarke
Chemistry - Periodic Trends Displays
“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” - Albert Einstein
Anatomy & Physiology - Teacher facilitated, Student Led Discussion on Stem Cell Research
Teacher facilitated, student led discussions are a great way to allow students to be heard in the classroom. This also gives the other students an opportunity to build off the knowledge and interests of their peers. This helps generate clearer understanding and motivation for those listening and participating.
“True teachers use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross. Then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own.” - Nikos Kazantzakis
Anatomy & Physiology - Stem Cell Research Paper
“Good teaching is more a giving of right questions than a giving of right answers.” - Josef Albers
Ecology - Forest Concept Map, built on Popplet
Concept Maps are one of many tools I use in the classroom to help students make connections. Popplet is a great site that allows the students the ability to make these connections in a very organized and colorful manner.
